UK-based composer, pianist and arranger

Hi there and welcome to my site. Currently based in the UK at Huddersfield University, I’m a professional, motivated and talented composer, arranger and pianist with over 14 years’ playing experience.

My compositional style is diverse and versatile, and I can competently write music in different genres. This may be pop, jazz, classical, film or even contemporary/experimental. I have years of experience composing and arranging using Sibelius software, am proficient in Pro Tools 8 HD, Cubase 4 and Logic Pro 9, and am well trained in studio recording and production techniques.  I’m currently in the second year of my degree studying Music Technology & Popular Music at Huddersfield, which is going really well at the moment!

I am constantly developing my craft and compositional voice, and my ultimate goal is to compose music for film, television and video games in the future. The site contains some of my compositions in various stages of development that you can listen to, as well as several improvisations displaying my raw musical ideas. It also has a page of music articles I’ve written which you can read. Please enjoy!

STALKER

Composed and produced by Charles Baker

This is a driving electronic track which I composed as the first assignment for my second year degree module Computer Composition 2.

The ‘narrative’ of this music is a man running, trying to hide from someone who wants to hunt him down and kill him; a ‘stalker’, and if you imagine these sorts of visual images in your head as you are listening (as well as human emotions such as desperation, fear etc.) then my track will have a greater emotional impact and will convey more musical meaning.

Structurally, the piece starts quietly and gets louder throughout the introduction, which lasts a minute and a half, until an initial climax is reached. Then a powerful groove suddenly kicks in and the track continues in this vein until a fade out is reached at the end.
